AwesomeCon D.C. 2013

This was a first year comic con in Washington, DC.  It was only a two day event, and I went on Sunday.  I have to say, I had a more enjoyable time in just a few hours than I did for most of Katsucon.  Because AwesomeCon had that small con atmosphere than I’ve been missing…and anime cons kind of lose their appeal when you don’t really like anime anymore.

I only went to one panel, but it was entertaining and informative.  It was about writing and publishing within the fantasy/sci-fi genre. The panelists were all published writers and they were both knowledgeable and amusing.

After checking out the vendor room, I changed into my costume of Fionna (ballgown artwork version) from Adventure Time.  I made sure that my friends and I were signed up for the group costume contest, and then my hubby and I walked around some more and checked out other costumers.  There were a lot of people there for a first year con!

My friends arrived with about 5 minutes to spare, and we watched the costume contest.  So many wonderful entries!  We did the ballgown versions of the Adventure Time ladies (minus LSP.)

We all made our costumes on VERY short notice, but it was challenging and a lot of fun!  I’m just glad I didn’t have to get painted…

We ended up winning 3rd place, and each received $10 gift cards to a local-ish comic shop.  They happened to have a booth in the vendor room, so we went back there with the intention of using our winnings.  I got two little mini Marvel cellphone straps, the kind where you don’t know which one you’re actually getting, and I wound up with Human Torch and Storm.  They’re pretty cute!

The first place winners of the costume contest were a wonderful Booker and Elizabath from Bioshock Infinite!  I have a lot of feelings about Bioshock, so when they won I actually got a little choked up!  They were super nice, too.

Anyway, after that I changed back into regular clothes and my hubby and I left because I have a standing date at 8 on Sunday nights…with Once Upon a Time.

I give this con a super huge thumbs-up!  Everyone was nice, staff was helpful, the two events I went to started on schedule (the costume contest was only like 7 minutes late, which IMO is outstanding) and it just had a great atmosphere of people enjoying their fandoms.

A++ WOULD GO AGAIN!
